Tattoo of Crosses

A lot of people have cross tattoos. Now, there are all sorts of crosses for jewelry and obvious the same goes for tattoos.

Generally the cross is a religious symbol signifying the death and sacrifice of Jesus Christ. In the modern word, crosses can be as non-religious as anything else in the world and used simply as a design in jewelry, tattoos, among other things. However, most designs have some kind of history behind them.

There are many different basic designs of crosses, and all of them can be cool tattoos. The two main categories are Christian crosses and non-Christian crosses. For Christian crosses, there’s the Latin cross, the crucifix, Russian orthodox cross, Greek orthodox cross, Crusader’s cross, Maltese cross, Celtic cross, Anchor cross, St. Andrew’s cross, the resurrection cross, and many more.

As for the non-Christian crosses, there are just as many different types, including the Native American Cross (Mesoamerican), Chinese cross, Ankh, Tau cross, Gammate/swastika cross, variations of Gothic crosses, and the Aztec cross.

Almost all types of crosses can be used as great tattoo designs. It all depends on what message you want to send and what you want to represent. Check out some cool cross designs below and see if you can identify what they are.

  • Great Post. I’m not particularly religious but I love the picture of the cross and wings on the woman’s back. Really cool.

I like your tattoos but I am highly insulted by your calling the Greek Cross, a non-Christian cross. For crying out loud, wikipedia states,

“the Eastern Orthodox Church (or other name Greek Orthodox Church) is the second largest single Christian communion in the world. It has between 225 and 300 million members worldwide. It is considered by its adherents to be the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church established by Christ and his Apostles nearly 2000 years ago.”

I would appreciate a change on your website. Otherwise, good luck with your tattoos !

TJ – Thanks for the info!

Yeah, it must not have seemed obvious before that the Greek cross is from the Greek Orthodox Church! I must have been thinking about Greek mythology rather than the Greek church. =)
